C2: Kabir

She stood up from the chair she was sitting with her lawyers and walked out into her brother’s embrace. She didn’t even glance at me and left the court. My mother placed her hand on my shoulder, but I pulled away from her warmth. My mother gasped but I couldn’t care less. I turned around to see her, my father consoling her and my sister staring at her husband.

“You are a miserable woman.”

“I can’t believe that you will stoop so low for money.”

“How can you do that to your own husband?”

“What kind of woman are you?”

“You don’t deserve to be here at all.”

“Get out of my house.”

I let out a shuddering breath and closed my eyes. What would have she gone through? How did she go through all these months? How did she survive? Is she alright?

I so badly wanted to gather her in my arms and hide her in my embrace, a place where she always belonged. My lawyer came to me and shook my hand and left from there and we followed suit. Getting into the car I sped home and dropped my family and headed to the office.

Walking into my cabin, I sat on my chair and picked up my phone to call my friend, Abhimanyu. “I need all the details on my wife.” I spoke, skipping all the formalities.

“Wife, what wife? Dude the last I know you are divorced and single dude. And are you talking about Meera, what happened to her case? There was a hearing this week right?” He asked, shooting questions after questions.

“She is innocent bro. She was true all along. I–I don’t know what to do now.” I paused as everything came crashing on me. Not wanting to delve on the past, I spoke again. “Find out everything about her. Every single thing. Where was she all these days, what did she do, where-where did she work these days?” I stopped realizing how miserable she could have been. When we married she was working in a company putting her aspirations aside for my family. She decided to put her dreams of opening her own dream place on hold so that she can be with us. I chuckled humorlessly, thinking about how selfless she was and how we treated her in return.

“I’ll try to grab some information on her. I am not very certain how successful I will be. Don’t keep your hopes high.” Abhi spoke and I nodded even though he couldn’t see me through the phone.

“What kind of security management company do you run if you cannot find information?”

“Dude, I run a company that provides security, not ones that tamper with others' security. Also, she managed to fool the media and hide well, why do you think she will make herself known?”

“You are of no use.” I snapped and that bastard chuckled.

“Fine, I’ll try but again no promises.” I hung up on him.

Meera, how do I make you mine again?
